EIHL season profile
League-wide season characteristics: results, margins, parity and scoring depth
Result type
Share of games decided in regulation, overtime or a shootout, per season.
Margin of victory
Share of games by final score margin, per season. A shootout winner always shows as a 1-goal margin.
League points spread
Points percentage (points earned as a share of the maximum available), not raw points -- seasons have different game counts (2020/21 was COVID-shortened to about 30 games against a normal 54), so raw totals are not comparable across seasons. League regular season only, regardless of the competition tickboxes above -- points is a league-standings concept with no Challenge Cup/Playoffs equivalent in this data.
Goals for / against per game
Each team's own goals for and against, divided by games played, then the min/median/max of that rate across teams -- not raw season totals, since seasons have different numbers of games.
Player production
Goals/assists: league total (bars, left axis) and the max and 90th-percentile (top 10%) of per-player rate (lines, right axis, players with at least 20 games that season only, to avoid part-season players skewing it). The 90th-percentile line is the bar for a legitimately good scorer that season; a rising gap between it and the max suggests scoring concentrating at the very top rather than spreading through the league's better players. Plus/minus (signed, so no league total) shows both tails: top 10%/max in blue, bottom 10%/min in red.
Competitive balance and home ice
Points percentage standard deviation (left axis) is a parity indicator -- a lower value means seasons where teams finished closer together; points is League-only regardless of the tickboxes above, matching the points-spread chart. Home win % (right axis, 0-100%, ties excluded) respects the competition tickboxes.
